Love Utah’s canyon country and supporting working artists and artisans? Make plans now to attend the premier art event of the Colorado Plateau – the 14th Annual Escalante Canyons Art Festival-Everett Ruess Days in late September 2018 in Escalante, Utah!  Escalante is off the beaten path  – along Utah’s only All American Road, Scenic Byway 12 – between Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks, in the heart of Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument.

“Working Arts Festival” inspired by Everett Ruess

Art Exhibit Escalante Southern, Utah

To celebrate the life and work of this enigmatic artist – local business people, caring citizens and artists, with the help of top Ruess aficionados, have organized the Escalante Canyons Art Festival/Everett Ruess Days. The Non-Profit Organizations Envision Escalante and Escalante Canyons Group for Arts and Humanities and other supporters present this “Working Arts Festival” as a premiere art and literary gathering with the aim of welcoming people to the stunning landscapes surrounding this area of Utah and giving attendees an opportunity to learn some of its rich history. We invite Utah and the world to come and experience the intense beauty in and around the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Everett’s spirit of adventure touches a special creative desire in all of us as we seek to express, as he did, our response to the rugged landscape and mystery of the Escalante Canyons and Red Rock Country.

2017 Plein Air Invitational Artists Announced

Zion National Park and the Zion National Park Foundation have finalized the dates, event locations and artists for the 2017 Plein Air Art Invitational. The week-long event starts on Monday November 6, 2017 and culminates on Saturday November 11, 2017 with the “Art-In-The-Park” Paint Out and Silent Auction event held on the grounds of the Zion Lodge.

During the week, artists can be seen throughout the Park producing paintings as they naturally exist in that moment – Plein Air style painting. The artists will paint in an assortment of mediums, including watercolor, oil, pastels, and acrylic. Painting demonstrations, lectures, and opportunities to buy art will also be included in the week’s event.

Each artist will exhibit two studio pieces for sale in the Zion Human History Museum from September 1 to the close out of the event. Renderings from the Paint Out event and Silent Auction can be purchased Saturday at the Zion Lodge. The Plein Air pieces painted during the week will also be on sale at the Museum over the weekend.

Proceeds from the event support Zion National Park’s Art and Youth Initiatives. “As Zion National Park’s official nonprofit partner, we are proud to host the 9th annual Plein Air Art event with our park partner”, comments Mark Preiss, Director, Zion Project. “This project sustains the park’s heritage of art, while proceeds help us give thousands of our area school children once in a lifetime experiences in Zion National Park every season.”

For more information, contact Kathy Duley 480-277-0458, email: [email protected]

Hosted each year by the Grand Canyon Association, the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art is an annual event that includes 6 days of art related events followed by a 3 month long exhibition in Kolb Studio on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

Every September, park visitors and residents have an opportunity to watch artists paint Grand Canyon as they seek to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of this vast landscape.

Each artist brings a completed studio piece with them and then spends a number of days creating more artwork on the South Rim, on the North Rim, at Phantom Ranch and at Indian Garden during the Plein Air at the Canyon Event.

At the end of the week, on Saturday, the Quick Draw Event takes place in the historic district of Grand Canyon Village. During the auction that immediately follows the Quick Draw event, park residents and visitors have the opportunity to bid on the paintings that they watched being created that morning, and to bring a piece of Grand Canyon home.

Proceeds from this event support the goal of funding an art venue at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. This permanent home will ensure that future generations of park visitors will be able to view the stunning art collection in the Grand Canyon National Park Museum and Grand Canyon Association Collections.

The 2017 Exhibit and Sale will run through Tuesday, January 16, 2018.
